As all of us go through this unprecedented time, our faith can waver. We can ask questions like we did after the tsunami in Japan or the earthquake in Haiti: Why is this happening? Is God really sovereign?
Then I think about the words of the man who brought his child to Christ for healing Mark 9:24. Speaking to Jesus, the father of the child cries out, “I believe; help my unbelief.” The disciples in Luke 17:5 say something similar to the Lord. They say to Jesus, “Increase our faith!”
And so, I want to encourage us to continue to walk in the Lord and continue to trust him.
G.K. Chesterton once said, “When belief in God becomes difficult, the tendency is to turn away from him. But in heaven’s name to what?” Where else are we going to go?
As we go through loss and grief and uncertainty and fear, I encourage you to continue and keep turning to him. And that’s the beauty of the gospel — that he has bought us and He loves us, regardless of how faithful we are.
Let us make that our prayer: Lord, I believe in you. Help my unbelief at times like this. Would you increase my faith? You’re the only answer.
