To all our SOLA Network readers and listeners: I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new writing cohort for college-age students to receive mentorship and training as young Christian writers. I will personally be leading this initiative, and I am very excited at the prospect of nurturing the next generation of Asian American thinkers and writers who will help encourage and edify the Church. See below for more information on the Cohort.
Sola College Writing Cohort
Two-fold purpose:
- Curating a series of articles for the SOLA Network highlighting the perspective of college students around the country. These articles will ask questions on topics such as personal faith, transition into adulthood, use of social media, reflections on current events, and church membership to a group of college students across various locations, age, gender, and ethnic heritage who share the collective identity of “Asian-American Christian.”
- Training the next generation of Asian-American thought leaders and authors in the Church through mentorship and exposure to guided writing opportunities.
We Are Looking For:
Asian-American college-age students (18-22) who are currently members or regular attendees of a local church. Students do not have to be presently enrolled in school (we would love to hear from those who are taking more “non-traditional” paths as well!).
Requirements:
- Ability to join quarterly Zoom meetings for training, peer review, and community building.
- Must be willing to contribute writing for the SOLA Network college series in a timely manner, and be able to communicate his/her thoughts on matters of faith through writing. However, contributors to this project will receive ample guidance and feedback from the project lead so they need not be afraid of lacking formal writing experience.
- Students should name a pastor who has a personal relationship with him/her to give a reference. This pastor should be able to speak to the student’s demonstrated desire to grow in leadership and communication, but most importantly his/her desire to grow and edify the Church.
If you are a pastor or leader who interacts with this demographic in your local ministry, please recommend this opportunity to any students you believe would be a good fit. If you yourself fit into this age range and are interested, don’t hesitate to apply or ask questions directly to me. Applications are due on May 31 and the Cohort will be active from Summer 2023 to Spring 2024.
For all our other readers, I ask that you would join me in praying that this new effort could help equip young believers to communicate their faith winsomely and clearly, for the glory of God.
