How Can A Christian Maintain A Lifestyle Of Intimacy And Prayer In the Midst Of The Busyness Of Life?

“As believers, we have to seek God’s will by seeking God’s word.”

Believers keep prayer in their lives by making it a priority.

We’re all so busy, and we all have so many things going on. But it’s only when we prioritize that we can focus and put our time, energy, and heart into growing or developing in anything.

In Psalm 27, King David he says, “One thing that I have asked of the Lord.” Not many things, the one thing. The one thing he asked was to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life.

David was busy. He was probably busier than all of us because he was a king. He probably had more emotional burdens because of all the things going in his kingdom. But during that, his priority was, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple” (Psalm 27:4).

The first thing David had to do was gaze. Gaze is intimacy. It’s a prayer life. It’s closing the door to do what Jesus says to do, to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. It’s Jesus telling us to go into a room, close the door behind you, and pray to your Father who is in secret.

So when David’s talking about gazing about God, he’s talking about having a life of prayer. It’s having uninterrupted time of prayer with God.

Then, we have to seek God’s word. When kings sought God in the Old Testament, they looked for prophets. King Saul would go to Samuel, and King David would go to Nathan. The kings could not just sit around, but they had to go, look, and seek.

In the same way, as believers we have to seek God’s will by seeking God’s word. If we don’t do that your time is going to fly by, and the things of God are going to become secondary. We’re going to be caught up in work, caught up in school, and caught up in family. These aren’t bad things, but those can’t be the one thing or the main thing.

Instead, we have to make prayer a priority, and in doing so, keep prayer in our lives.
