A Prayer For Teachers, Staff, And Families Going Back To School

Heavenly Father,

This is the day you’ve made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. You are our sovereign Lord, ruling and governing over this world with justice and equity. Even in the midst of this pandemic, you are in control, working all things to accomplish glory for your name, which is the greatest good for us. Although this is a difficult truth to understand, give us the spiritual eyes to see beyond what is happening.

Lord, you are gracious, merciful, and abounding in steadfast love. Thank you for the gift of your grace. It is through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus that we have everlasting hope and unwavering confidence. Thank you that we have an eternity secured for us in the promises of the Gospel. Help us, Lord, to remember and know who you are and that we belong to you always. We ask for your mercy and for healing for this broken world.

Father, as the school year has begun, I pray for our teachers. They have to adjust and adapt to a new format of teaching that is unfamiliar. Give them grace and the ability to teach effectively as they are recording and zooming with their students. Grant them patience and understanding as parents will have many questions and even critiques of this new format. Help them to teach with the mind of Christ. May they have a strong sense of your calling that will give them lasting passion and perseverance through the school year. As they get exhausted and stressed, may you comfort them and assure them of your delight over them. Help them not to based their worth and value on their performance or even their students’ performance, but rather in the finished work of the cross. May all that they do as teachers come from a place of gratitude, in response to the amazing grace they’ve received in Christ.

God, be with different school districts and their administrations. Give them wisdom and discernment to make decisions that will provide the best and safest learning environment for both teachers and students to thrive. We also pray for the schools that are under-resourced or students who don’t have the proper means to experience distance learning. I ask that somehow and someway they can get the means to learn from their homes. Help us as the church, be generous to those in need.

Lord, we lift up our families who will have to figure out how to work and also supervise their kids learning from home. We ask for grace and wisdom. Grant us patience and endurance with our spouses and our children. Help us to find a rhythm and balance to this new normal. For those who are overwhelmed and currently don’t know how to navigate this situation, we pray for provision and help. Most of all, help us as parents not to lose faith but to look to you and cling to you for help. You say that if we ask for wisdom, you will generously provide. Give us wisdom in how to lead our families to honor and glorify you in the midst of this pandemic.

Father, we need your help. We continue to look to you in humble reliance. Lord, we pray for a vaccine that will heal our world from this pandemic. Help us to wait patiently and build us up in faith and obedience in these trying times. Thank you that we can rest in your love and grace. Help us to live for your glory in this season. It’s in Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.
