Why SOLA is Supporting the “Statement on Anti-Asian Racism in the Time of COVID-19”

Along with the spread of the COVID-19, there has been an increase in the disease of anti-Asian racism. Asian Americans are being blamed, harassed, and even attacked for simply looking Asian.

Here at the SOLA Network, we believe racism is a sin as it directly contradicts the truth that God created all of us in his image, contradicts Christ’s command to love our neighbors, and conflicts with his ministry of reconciliation. Therefore we believe Christians are to call out racism in its many forms and seek to protect the powerless and marginalized.

In addition, as we are an organization that platforms Asian Americans and has an audience that is primarily Asian American, we believe it is imperative to highlight this pressing issue within our community.

To this end, the SOLA Network is supporting the Asian American Christian Collaborative’s “Statement on Anti-Asian Racism in the Time of COVID-19.” This statement “denounces the current rise in anti-Asian racism in the United States of America. It calls for an immediate end to the xenophobic rhetoric, hate crimes, and violence against our people and communities, and invites all Americans to join them.”

The SOLA Network believes this statement clearly lays out the need for the church to take a stand against hatred and bigotry. We believe that Christians must stand with those who have been affected by this racism. The statement also calls for action steps that we believe Christians and churches can take to support our Asian American brothers and sisters during these troubled times.

The Asian American Christian Collaborative is a group comprised of Christians from various denominational backgrounds for the purpose of addressing this issue. Although we may not agree doctrinally with every person who signs the document, we are all united in the idea that God has created all of us in the Imago Dei and that we must take a collective stand against the sin of racism.

We encourage you to read the statement and sign it if you are convicted to do so. Here at the SOLA Network, we will continue to write about how to support fellow Christians and Asian Americans to combat hatred and pursue truth and justice. We hope that this will be one step in the glorious reconciliation that is brought by Christ and gives Him all the glory.
